The 7th installation of the Interact Club of Vrindavan School was held on the 22nd of August in their school hall. The chief guest was Mrs Nilima Nirola, Principal of the school. The guest of honour was Rtn CA Sumit Jindal, President of the Rotary Club of Kalimpong. He was accompanied by fellow Rotarians viz Rtn Vikas Kejriwal, Past President Rtn Sanjay Bajla and the Club’s newly appointed New Gen Director Rtn Sheila Rai Fudong. Interactors of Rockvale Academy and St. Augustine’s School, along with their Faculty Advisers were also present. The Faculty Advisers of Vrindavan School were there in the hall to supervise the ceremony.
Intr Ritisha Rai was a very efficient MC who made the programme proceed seamlessly.
After the National Anthem was sung, a welcome address was given by Intr Sangay Palzor Dukpa following which the S.A.A. Intr Romita Saha escorted the chief guest Mrs Nirola, the guest of honour Presd Rtn CA Sumit Jindal, the incoming president and secretary of the Intr Club of Vrindavan School, Intr Deeya D. Lama and Intr Siddhant Sharma to the dais.
Khadas were presented to all the guests. Rotarians also offered khadas in exchange.
The outgoing secretary Intr Aakriti Dangal and the outgoing treasurer Intr Changa Sherpa gave their reports for the Intr year 2019-‘20 after which President Rtn CA Sumit Jindal solemnly installed the new Intr President and Secretary for the year 2022-‘23. It was wonderful to listen to the heartfelt words spoken by the Presd Intr Deeya D. Lama in her acceptance speech. She emphasised the fact that their Club would plan projects centred around the environment and the community.
The President of RC Kalimpong then presented lapel pins to the new Board of Directors after they were introduced by the newly installed Intr President.
Next, it was the turn of new members to be inducted They were handed lapel pins by chief guest, the Principal Mrs Nirola. A total of 47 Interactors, including the board members were inducted into the Interact Club of Vrindavan School..
The oath taking ceremony was conducted by the New Gen Director Rtn Sheila Rai Fudong who also spoke a few words of advise and suggestions to the Interactors. She emphasised the fact that all Rotarians were just a phone call away to guide and mentor them.
Her speech was preceded by that of the President of RC Kalimpong who gave an in-depth explanation of what Interact was, what projects could be done etc. He also congratulated Intr Deeya D Lama on her presidentship by reiterating the fact that this year Rotary International was honoured to have a woman president for the very first time in Rotary’s history. He explained this year’s theme ‘Imagine Rotary’ in a very inspirational manner.
The final speech was that of the chief guest Mrs Nirola. She urged the children to be a humanitarian first and be of Service above Self like Rotarians.
The new secretary of the Interact Club gave his announcements including their plans for this year. One focus was to have a sanitary napkin station/box next to the girls toilet. They also had pledged to avoid using single use plastic within their school walls. An electric water dispensing filter was also being installed shortly.
This was followed by a vote of thanks given by Intr Vishakha Bagdas. She thanked Rotarians for their presence.
The ceremony was adjourned for a photograph session, followed by tea and sumptuous snacks graciously hosted by the Director of the school, Mr Lawan Pradhan. The Interactors were excellent servers to the guests.
