Bike rally to end polio

Report on the Motorbike Rally by Rotary Club of Kalimpong

20 December 2025

On 20 December 2025, the Rotary Club of Kalimpong created history by launching its first Motorbike Rally under the global Rotary theme “End Polio Now.” The successful execution of the rally was the outcome of three months of detailed planning, route reconnaissance, and coordinated efforts. The rally was meticulously planned and executed by Rtn Vishal Gurung, Secretary of the Club, with active support from Rtn Karan Pradhan and Rtn Abhishek Pradhan. The team was guided and mentored by President Rtn Col A. K. Gogoi, along with senior Rotarians Rtn Vikash Golyan Jr. and Rtn Mukesh Changia, whose experience proved invaluable. The rally flagged off from the Rotary Centre, Kalimpong, at 0900 hours on 20 December 2025. DSP Shri Bhanu Rai ceremonially flagged off the rally on behalf of Shri Shrihari Pandey, DIG (IPS) and Superintendent of Police, Kalimpong. Escorted by riders from the Kalimpong Police, the rally passed through Algarah, Lava, Gorubathan, Samsing, Kumai Mor, and Jholum, before culminating at Parengtar. The riders were warmly received by police personnel at PS Jholum en-route. At Parengtar, the rally merged with the Kholeydai Festival, a three-day harvest festival organised by the local community and various volunteer organisations. The rally saw participation from 12 bikers, including three lady riders. A special mention goes to Rtn Col Kunga Sherpa, who returned to riding after a 28-year hiatus to support the noble cause, making the event even more memorable.
