AGROVET MELA ORGANISED BY ROTARY CLUB OF KALIMPONG IN ASSOCIATION WITH ARD DEPARTMENT, KALIMPONG AND KALIMPONG ANIMAL SHELTER AT PEDONG
A historic Agrovet Mela/fair was held on Saturday the 13thSeptember, 2025 at the premises of the Department of Animal Resource Development, Pedong, organized by the Rotary Club of Kalimpong in association with ARD Kalimpong and Kalimpong Animal Shelter.
Various Departmental stalls involving ARD, Agriculture, Fisheries, Health Department, Blood Bank Kalimpong, Red Cross Society, Kalimpong, David Gas Distributors and SHG’s were set up to benefit people at large. A Dental checkup stall was also set up in association with Smile Dental Clinic, Kalimpong wherein Rtn Dr. Gaurav Chettri examined 49 patients. Jamgong Kongtrul Eye Centre, Kalimpong examined more than 100 people, during which 4 people were diagnosed with Cataract and advised for further treatment.
A Blood Donation Camp was organized by KalimpongDistrict Voluntary Blood Donor Forum and Blood Bank, District Hospital, Kalimpong wherein 31 people donated their blood voluntarily. Kalimpong Animal Shelter under Rtn Dr. DP Pandey conducted Animal Birth Control program where a total of 32 Dogs and Cats were sterilized. Mr. Nerius Mukhia,on behalf of David Gas Distributor, Kalimpong conducted an awareness program on LPG safety which was attended by many people. District Fishery Officer, Mr. Sumanta Biswas gave awareness about Fish Farming and Aquaponics. The ARD Department provided free medicine distribution to the farmers and Anti- Rabies vaccination was administered free of charge to 63 dogs. The Agriculture Department exhibited Power Tillers, Bush cutters, spraying machine etc. for demonstration.
This was a unique program bringing various Departments and Organizations under one umbrella to benefit the local residents.
The entire program was coordinated by Rtn Dr. Devendra Pradhan, Deputy Director, ARD Department, Kalimpong andRtn. Col. A K Gogoi President RC Kalimpong. Rotarians Col P C Thapa, Col. K P Bhutia, Cdr Dilram Gurung, Sheila Rai Fudong, Sanjogita Subba, Rajat Dalmia, Praveen Pradhan, Karan Pradhan and Munindra Bhujel were also present.
The ARD Department was represented by Dr. Pema Choden, Dr. Deepak Sharma, Dr. Brihat Chettri, Dr. D P Pandey and Dr. Imtiaz Hassan along with the ARD staff of Kalimpong and Pedong.
Mr. Kamal Subba, Executive Sabashad, In – charge ARD Department, GTA was present as a special guest.
Dr. Devendra Pradhan and President RC Kalimpong Rtn. Col. A K Gogoi thanked all the participating Departments and Organizations for making the program a huge success and presented them with Rotary Khada and memento.
